This was a very special AAW exhibition, "Reflecting upon the field of woodturning from the 1986 founding of the AAW throughout its first 20 years."

Exhibition entrants were asked to consider the following:
"We invite AAW members to become part of this exhibition with pieces that reflect: commitment, America's favorite pasttime, or work this title inspires."

Exhibition entrants were asked to consider the following:
"We invite AAW members to take a journey back with us to your childhood, where reality and fantasy abound in the wonderful Land of Oz."

Exhibition entrants were asked to consider the following:
"We invite AAW members to take a journey of transformation. Find something that will show and create a sense of vitality, emotion, and feeling from your material. Look for an aesthetic experience using all senses at your disposal — sight, touch, hearing, and smell."

The exhibition was sponsored by the Brand Library Art Galleries in conjunction with AAW. The exhibition opened the evening before the 2003 Symposium, and was located a short distance away from the Symposium location in Pasadena.

Rather than than looking to works by other artists - whether they be other woodturners, glass workers, potters, or basket makers - this is about going to a primary source for all ideas and inspiration, Nature herself." -- Alan Lacer ('Nature Takes A Turn' Exhibition Coordinator ,and AAW Honorary Lifetime Member)

The exhibition was co-sponsored by Minnesota Museum of American Art and AAW. The Exhibition ran through September 8, 2002 in various galleries nationwide.

It was associated with the 1999 Turning Northwest Symposium in Tacoma, Washington and traveled to Japan for a major woodturning symposium.

Turned for Use show catalog features 31 entries, with specifications plus 18 pieces from the Old Sturbridge Village Collection, and work from the jurors in this 1997 AAW exhibition. The exhibition was held in San Antonio, Texas and later traveled to Raleigh, North Carolina.

It was associated with the 1997 Turning Fiesta! Symposium in San Antonio.
