Glenn Ernest Burki
Jun. 1, 1938 - Oct. 12, 2022
Glenn (84) passed away peacefully surrounded by family after a
valiant battle with cancer. Born to Stella and Ernest Burki in June,
1938 in Portland, Ore., he was the oldest of three children and was
preceded in death by his brother James. Following his years at Beaverton
High School, Glenn joined the Army and served for three years,
including a tour in Germany. When he returned to Portland, he secured a
position with a local cabinet shop as an apprentice cabinetmaker, later
achieving journeyman status. However, it was his next employment that
would come to define most of the rest of his life. Glenn joined the City
of Milwaukie police department in 1962, serving initially as a
patrolman, advancing to the position of detective, and ultimately being
promoted to sergeant. It was as a police officer that Glenn forged a
reputation for honesty and integrity, embodying all the honorable
characteristics of a police officer. Upon retirement in 1992 at age 55
he began in earnest to pursue his love of woodworking. Glenn plunged
into the world of woodturning – building himself a shop, joining a
woodturners group and traveling to numerous shows. Periodically he
interrupted his wood turning to build a finely crafted piece of
furniture. Family, friends and customers were recipients of his highly
prized pieces. Glenn loved a project and was willing to give a hand when
and where needed. In addition to his woodworking, Glenn was a member of
Al-Anon and a sponsor with Alateen. He also made a trip to Mexico with
Medical Teams International for house building.
Glenn is survived by his wife, K'Jilene; sons, Troy (Wanda) and Brian
(Jeanne); grand and great-grandchildren, his sister Mary (Mike), and a
number of cousins.
