Michael Dellekamp, New Palestine, IN

Michael David Dellekamp, 75, New Palestine, passed away expectantly on Saturday, July 8, 2023. He was born on December 5, 1947, in Shelbyville, to Francis John and Eva Geraldine (Moore) Dellekamp. Mike is a 1966 graduate of New Palestine High School. He also attended college at Indiana State.

Mike was a very devoted father, husband, and grandfather. He had a positive impact on so many over his years. He was generous with time and had an abundance in overflow. Mike was a thinker, an inventor, a teacher, a mentor, and a creator. He loved creating projects for others. At times, he overcommitted himself.

Mike loved to dance with wood as he created beautiful works of art, such as urns, bowls, and play tops. He has created over 70,000 tops and generously given those out to children and adults alike from a bag he carried with him daily. His passion for turning wood was exemplified in his enthusiasm for not only teaching others but learning from those he taught. He belonged to the American Association of Woodturners. Mike loved to dance, play chess, and was a fierce euchre player, even teaching the grandkids at a young age.

Mike was the embodiment of a great grandparent. He lit up with intent when he was able to see and play with his grandkids. He was blessed with meeting his wife, Gretchen Renae Wahls, 11 years ago. Mike celebrated 50 years as a Mason and loved being a member of Zion Lutheran Church of New Palestine. He worked as an engineer in manufacturing for many years in addition to being a business owner.

Mike is survived by his loving wife Gretchen Renae Dellekamp, of 9 years; children: Heather (Adam) Dellekamp Jones, Heidi Dellekamp, and Joshua Dellekamp; grandkids, Blaize Jones and Haizle Jones; beloved dogs, Sam and Lady; cousin, LuAnn Mattingly; many first, second, and third cousins; and ex-wife, Toni Dellekamp.

He was preceded in death by his father, Francis Dellekamp; mother, Eva Berry; grandfather, Guy Skillman “Shorty” Moore; and cousin, Kevin Ruschhaupt.
