Utilizando un torno convencional, una esmeriladora de mano, y algunas herramientas básicas de tornería. Los asistentes aprenderán el proceso que sigo para tallar y tornear una escultura de pared. Una ves completada la pieza se hará una presentación de trabajos anteriores, que ayudaran a ilustrar algunas de las múltiples posibilidades de esta técnica.

• Diferentes formas de asegurar los bloques al torno.

• Familiarización con la técnica.

Turning and Carving Sculptural Wall Art

During this Spanish-language presentation attendees will be introduced to the techniques Roberto has developed to create his signature work in a safe and easy manner. He will demonstrate how to quickly turn and carve a wall sculpture using only the lathe, a grinder and conventional woodturning tools. Roberto will also explain the different results you can achieve by using end grain vs side grain, proper tool selection, and different ways of mounting the wood on the lathe. In the end, there will be a short slide presentation to illustrate the many different results you can achieve using this technique.

Roberto nació y creció en el estado de Puebla.  El deseo de trabajar con madera le nació durante la niñez, cuando su padre decidió construir una cama de madera   Su constante deseo de aprender acerca de mecanismos, y de cómo están construidas las cosas. Le llevo a desarrollarse en diferentes trabajos, como mecánica automotriz, hojalatería y pintura, operación de maquinaria industrial, y construcción entre otras. Alrededor de los veintisiete años, decidió construir algunos muebles para la casa,  Después de algún tiempo empezó a tallar cuencos y vasijas. Fue esto lo que eventualmente lo llevo a aprender tornería. En el dos mil trece, se unió al club The Chicago Wood Turners , donde tuvo la posibilidad de tomar clases de varios profesionales del oficio. En los últimos anos su trabajo ha sido reconocido a nivel internacional, y ha sido invitado a participar en exposiciones y festivales de arte. Roberto actualmente vive a las afueras de Chicago, donde se dedica a trabajar en su taller, y disfrutar de su familia.

Roberto was born and grew in the state of Puebla. The desire to work with wood was born during his childhood, when his father decided to build a wooden bed for him, leading to a constant desire to learn about mechanisms, and how things are built. This passion led him to develop in different works, such as automotive mechanics, tinsmithing and painting, industrial machinery operation, and construction among others. At around the age of 27, he decided to build some furniture for the house, and that led to carving bowls and vessels. This was what eventually led him to learn. In 2013, he joined the Chicago Wood Turners club, where he had the possibility of taking classes from several professionals in the trade. In recent years, his work has been recognized internationally, and has been invited to participate in exhibitions and art festivals. Roberto currently lives on the outskirts of Chicago, where he is dedicated to working in his workshop, and enjoying his family
